Arthritis and Healthy Ageing Yoga Program


This program focuses on therapeutic, accessible and gentle yoga classes alongside Ayurvedic routine and natural supplement recommendations for the 55+ client. The focus of the program is on healthy ageing with specialist attention on the pain and inflammation management of arthritis, recurrent body aches, and discomfort in the back and joints. Given Yoga Therapy is new, and still rare, in South Africa this program is unique and unexampled in it's approach.

Inviting people to try yoga later in life can be challenging as many people harbor the common misconception that you must be young and fit—or at least able to get down and up from the floor—to practice. Prospective students can rest assured that this is not true and quite simply, if you can breathe, you can do yoga! Many clients only start in their 60’s, and there have been many studies that have shown that for older adults—even frail elders in their 80s and 90s—yoga offers substantial health benefits and may be the best form of physical activity, and support for the management of persistent pain relief.

Your one-on-one session will review your current symptoms and as the program continues you will focus on mindful movement, therapeutic yogic poses, breathing tools, and relaxation techniques. Please speak to us about tailored programs for Dementia, Parkinson’s, Arthritis, Eye problems, Heart Disease or Cancer.   All classes are extremely gentle and can be done from a chair if necessary. You will receive a written recommendation following your session with movements to use between sessions, as well as Ayurvedic supplement support and nutritional advice to support a healthy and preventative daily routine and diet. We can also work with carers and family members to aid with yogic/Ayurvedic routine outside of classes.
